I think it's the chord you end with/finish up the tune with.

As I recall, this tune ends with a few shots on Im(maj7), perhaps with a
9th added as well. But the very lasy chord is Imaj9, perhaps with a #11
thrown in too.
Not really sure though.

The piano sheet shows the last cord as FCFGBD (G11/F?) The preceeding
cord is Gb Db Bb F Ab C Eb (Ab/GbMj7?).

Cheers,

The more I think about it the more I think I'm way off below.

In E, the 7 stabs might be F13#11 with the final chord might be
Em(maj7). Still not sure though.
I think the recording had the guitar tuned down a 1/2 step so that's
really E13#11 and Ebm(maj7).

On guitar these grips would work:
F13#11 = X 6 5 4 3 X (bass player plays root, 3rd and 5th are omitted)
Em(maj7) = X 7 5 4 4 X
But the shots are really voiced for big band horns, not guitar.

Try this: key of E -- F, Bb, D, G, C, E.
Play it at the first fret, with D, G and high E open. Let me know if
this nails it!

aerotop,

The chord I'm thinking of came after a two-beat rest at the end of the
theme and was a just guitar appegio of six notes. I'm not referring to
the horn blast before that. Are we on the same page?

i think 8 beats on a f then the kill chord on the the next offbeat
all horns......mancini had it in f but we play it in e as a walk off
and sounds crap without that last chord

Oh geez, that's right.
In R&B bands we always play it in E so we can use the open E string.
