Twelve years ago at Steamer's in Fullerton. Sure was a great and
relaxed place to hear consistently good jazz. Like most it's now long
gone...

Yeah he's one of my faves, and his work with the Gene Harris Quartet, is a perfect example of him playing really great, yet not clashing with the piano.
A great musician.

Great stuff! Thanks for the link. I've got his CDs where he plays with that electric bass player that has a five string bass and comps for him, so he can play a lot more single-line stuff. On this one he plays more chordal things than he does on those other records, and sounds great. I liked the way he quoted "The Girl Next Door" on the turnaround, and kept extending it.
He could've come down more for the bass solo, which I could barely hear, and I would've liked to have heard the drummer trade fours, rather than play over their changes.

Six-string bassist Todd Johnson?
