I heard a few weeks back that Clint Strong was in prison from a fellow
guitarist who knows him.

Here's a link from a Merle Haggards interview, toward the bottom of
the interview, he mentions
this. Hope he gets out pronto! Hope he straightens up also!

The wonders of the internet for violating people's privacy...

A little googling of "Clint Strong jail" suggests that a Gerald Clinton
Strong was jailed in Tarrant Co TX in February 2011 for an assault that
occurred in 2004. He doesn't appear to be in jail any longer. The mug
shot could be the same guy, although older and unflatteringly
photographed than other photos I have seen of Clint Strong.

On the positive side I've looked at more Clint Strong videos than I ever
had. Dude's got some chops.

That'd be good, don't need jazz guitarists in prison.

I've done a little research myself and here is the link, which is
Clint Strong's record. I had someone else verify that this is him.
Same age, that he was born on that date etc. He lives in Arlington
which is in Tarrant County. He inhderited his father's house when his
Dad passed away a few years back.

http://www.texastribune.org/library/data/texas-prisons/inmates/gerald-clinton-strong-jr/262369/

It appears that he is housed in the Stiles Unit prison in Beaumont,
Texas. Before this internet search I heard he was in
a prison in Amarillo, with no air conditioning during this brutal
summer. Don't know yet if he was in Amarillo then and transferred to
Beaumont later. I will try and find out.

I intend to continue to research this situation and if Clint wants
visitors, I (and another friend) intend to go and visit him. We're
only one and a half hours away. I was told by another guitarist and
acquaintance of Clints that many musicians did petition the parole
board on his behalf. Also I don't know if this charge is accurate on
the above link. The Tribune site which gives info on Texas prisoners
states that the stated charges can often be wrong. I don't want to go
into any details about what I've heard, until I confirm that, but what
I heard isn't what this link states.

My intent is to help give him support and offer others in the jazz
guitar community the opportunity to give him support also. I met him
when he was 10 at a Howard Roberts seminar, and have just causally
known him througout the years. I had long conversations with his
deceased Dad, who was a great man. Too bad he's not here now to help
Clint.
In my opinion Clint is of the greatest obscure jazz guitarists still
living and has never got the recogition he reserves.

To those of you who criticized me (and Merle Haggard) for posting this
information (the comment about the internet and privacy), all I can
say is that you must not want to deal with reality. The reality is
that the poor guy is in prison and he does need support, if he wants
it. It you didn't know about it, how could you offer support?

I will share (with this guitar group) what I learn about his sitution
and how see how we can best support him. I'm not posting this for
glory or for gossip, I posting because I've also heard that he really
should not have gone to prison.

You're misinterpreting if you think I was criticizing you. It was a
comment on how easily the Internet allowed me to look up information
like that.

greetings !

I know Clint form many years ago when he was in Nevada.... if this is true, I would like to be able to write him and offer my support. Prison is a lonely place. I tried looking him up on the Texas Dept of Correction web site, but he is not listed. Can only hope that this means this is just rumor. If you have any information on writing him, please respond !
Thanks !

If this dude is doing life for murdering someone, why should you
(or anyone, for that matter) give a shit how tough it is for him?
Just because he can play the fuckin' guitar? That doesn't buy
SHIT as far as I'm concerned, if he KILLED someone. Ask the
victim's relatives how impressed they are with his fretboard
skills, eh? Sorta like Chuck Berry - no-one ever seems to
mention the fact that he did time for carjacking and armed robbery,
was a convicted peeping tom (several times; in fact, the last
go-round was for installing cameras in the women's bathroom
at his restaurant), into kiddie porn, a thief, did time in the federal
slam for taking an underage girl across state lines for immoral
purposes, etc. Dude was a true piece of shit LOSER, but he
invented one catchy (not to me, but there's no accounting for tastes...)
guitar lick and that wipes out all the creepy bad shit he did?

Fuck that.

Hey, piss-pot - *I* didn't put up that link.

It leads to a record which lists murder as the crime.
For all I know, "Clint Strong" may be an alias for
the name on that link. The fact remains: artistic
skill (of any sort) should not buy a pass for anyone
who is a criminal (a la Chuck Berry and his ilk)
under any circumstances.

You didn't read the link either, and falsely accused Clint Strong of murder, even though he was only serving a nine-month sentence for a far less serious offense.

I didn't accuse him of jack shit - provide the relevant quote.

So..."assault" means he's a higher class of criminal, eh?

For all I know, "Clint Strong" may be an alias for
the name on that link.
For all I know, Willie "Lord Valve" Whittaker may be a serial molester of little boys.
Hey, I heard that a dude has video of you screwing a Shi-Tzu.
Wrinkles your thing? Noted.
...

I meant the video is of you screwing a Shar-Pei.
At least, that's what I heard. Sorry for the confusion.

So - you see --- this is exactly why your numbers in this group have dwindled to 6 or 7.
I've given up posting here (until today on thisa BS) simply because - no matter what I would post - someone would find a way to "tilt" it into an argument instead of something respectably constructive.
The political babble - has killed this group.
why cant you just read the post - either add a polite comment - or shut up.
Every post does not have to endf with the "F" word . Before ending your post like that - perhaps you may want to consider this.

I agree that profanity is not always a productive means of communication and I also agree that fighting has caused this here scene to dwindle, but where did you discover such a definition or synonym for profanity? Since beyond question, some of the strongest, most creative and highly intelligent beings throughout history all cursed their dick off.

And so your case rests on humor as well. "Dick off" was humor, which is why I am baffled by your definition or proposed equivalent for profanity. We are permitted humor here and profanity is utilized all to often within humor. Then OK, I rest mine too. In addition, if you'd be kind enough to answer my question...in fact pretty please with sugar on top? I don't see what profanity has to with Clint. And Byron please e mail me too?

I've kill filed them so I can't know, but I think there are only one or
to flame-baiters that do that kind of horseshit. I've seen other
groups survive 10 or 12 of them. So I assume there are other reasons,
mosty notably the ineffable success of FaceBook. The traffic in all the
newsgroups I frequent, 5 or 6, has diminished greatly over the past
year.

Byron

Fuck that.

Hey, looks like Mr. Peabody and Sherman have once again
cranked up the Wayback Machine, this time for a relatively
short jaunt of only four years. When it comes to the usenet,
sleeping dogs never lie. (Liberals, however, always do.)
Hey - that's pretty good! Keeper!

well fuck you,
Mmmm, no - don't think so. Nice of you to ask, though.

because you don't know the situation,

Which situation would that be?

and chuck berry did time for violating the mann act

Yes, as I stated in the original post; the Mann act
has to do with transporting an underage female across
state lines for immoral purposes. I believe the piece
of shit under discussion here was both porking and
pimping said female in this case. All the other crimes
I mentioned (carjacking, armed robbery, peeping tom,
hidden cameras in bathrooms, etc.) are easily brought
to light with a bit of googling, should anyone wish
to. So what?

lord dumb ass,

Oh, please. Is this the best you have? Work on it, Junior.

look up some shit on me while your at it,

Well, I'm afraid I can't do that, seeing as how the only
clue to your identity is an e-mail address that was munged
by Google Groups. Looks like it might say "slowhand." Damn -
are you Eric Clapton? Things a bit "slow" right now, are
they? I mean, what with Hiphop recently knocking Rock off
the throne and all. Say - if you could, like, learn some
Jazz, then you could not only play the Snob Card but also
have an excellent excuse for not gigging, seeing as how Jazz
is the second-worst selling genre, besting only children's
music in sales figures.

Well, don't let me keep you from whatever terribly important
intellectual pursuits I'm sure you're involved in. (Editing
a grammar textbook, perchance?)

Fondest regards,

Lord Valve, ThD
Expert (fuck you)

I heard a few weeks back that Clint Strong was in prison from a fellow
guitarist who knows him.
Here's a link from a Merle Haggards interview, toward the bottom of
the interview, he mentions
this. Hope he gets out pronto! Hope he straightens up also!
He'd probably prefer this not be publicized on the Internet. But now
that it is, if anyone here knows him and what kind of help he might
need, please post it. I would certainly be happy to send him some
strings, or write a letter in support of his parole, etc.
