Anyone tried the Genz-Benz Shenandoah Compak 300 10"? Suitable for a loud
clean jazz tone?

I recently heard Tom Doyle (the guitar maker) play one of his guitars
through one at his gig in N. Jersey. Tone was AWESOME..he does the les
paul style and the volume and tone were stellar. If i see one of these
amps on sale, i will grab one....i also understand they are
lightweight.

How large a gig do you think it can handle? A big band?

I LOVE my Compak 300! It's 175 watts, so there is a point where you
might need a little more volume. Big band? Depends - soloing over a
full horn shout might be pushing it, everything else - no problem.
I've found that adding a small extension speaker and placing it on the
other side of the stage gives me a lot more spread, and seems to cover
almost anything. For me, if the volume has to be much more than that,
I'll go through the PA - the line outs are great on the Genz Benz. The
main reason I love it, and have even sold my series III Clarus, is
that the tone is unbeatable, and very versatile. The digital effects
are much nicer than the AI, in my opinion, which is a plus.

As far as the FX: Can you select reverb by itself, chorus by itself, and
reverb and chorus together?

Thanks,

Here's a review of the amp if you haven't seen it...

http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2009/May/Genz_Benz_Shenandoah_Compak_300_Combo_Acoustic_Amp_Review.aspx

The vid uses an ES-330 on the latter part; he says it's decent for an
electric sound but excels with acoustic guitars.

The DSP may not be as configurable as you'd like, but they do have
separatye chorus and reverb and then a combination of the two. I don't
think you can set speed since you;ll have to pick the couple of chorus
variations they provide. Anyway, hre's the manual (DSP on pg3):

Forgot to mention it, but the wattage goes to 300W with the extension
cab.

Don't those use the emi neo speakers? I hate those things. I don't
like the sound of a FRFR crossover type system for guitar other than
acoustic.

I don't think they make the Compak 300 with a 15" speaker. Kind of
contradicts "Compak."
