I'm fairly sure none of you cats have ever seen Groove
play before - there is damn little video of him anywhere.
This is an absolutely *smokin'* version of "Billy's Bounce,"
with Steve Giordano on guitar. Steve tears this up! Willis
Jackson on sax, and Roger Humphries on drums. Unfortunately,
the first minute of the tune has some lame-ass voiceover
on it from someone who thought he was more important than
the music - but the 3-1/2 minutes which remain are killer.
Check out Holmes' MONSTER left-hand/foot bass work! Tasty
rotating eights traded with Humphries and the other cats
to lead back into the head at the end. GOOD SHIT! Enjoy:

FOUND SOME MORE from the same gig...unfortunately,
marred by occasional static and tape drop-outs, but
this is 11-1/2 minutes of kickass jazz. Jackson's
mouthpiece appears to be held together with duct
tape, but he manages to play a *rippin'* solo near
the end of the tape. Holmes is ON FIRE! Check it out:

The mouthpiece looks a little funky for sure probably Brass needing a little dab of Brasso., the white stuff at the front is just the normal Cork thingee that the mouthpiece slides onto.

Love that arrangement of Man I Luv.
I had a Willis Jackson recording with that arrangement on it with a young Pat Martino on guitar.
I think on that recording Willis sat out on the side B, and let Martino work out a lot.
Bg.
