Now that I'm buying Johnny Asia's amp, it's time to get rid of some
gear. Next week I'll be listing a Samick HJ650 on ebay, but thought I'd
give newsgroup readers the first crack at it, $350 plus shipping.

The HJ650 is Samick's L5-type archtop. Full-depth body, 17 inch lower
bout, 25.5" scale, laminated top, bullshit "gold" plating, passable
pickups. Nice hardshell case built for this guitar. This one is in
pretty good shape, no major dings. It is missing the little rubber thing
that goes on the pickup selector switch. This switch needs replacing.
It's kind of iffy. It wasn't a problem for me because I only use the
neck pickup. My take on these guitars is that at $350-450, they're
probably the best archtop you're going to find. You can dial in a nice
L5 tone for single note lines, but I never found a setting that was good
for both lines and chords. This is a pet peeve of mine. Neck is a little
narrow for my tastes. I'm much happier with my Epi "faux" ES175. Next
week I'll have some photos for ebay, but for all intents and purposes,
it looks just like this:

I've owned two of these and they are very nice guitars. Toms price is
great and I'm sure its set up well. As he says, you can get a dead on
L5CES tone w/ these - and save the $ for some really good wine....

Tom, was that the PR you are buying? If so, my fav amp. I've had 4 and
currently have a 66 PR.

Yeah, the Princeton Reverb. I believe it's a '72. I've always loved
them, and it recently occured to me that since I've become a
"livingroom player" I could actually get by nicely with 18 watts. I
was going to save up the bucks, but when I saw that Johnny was
liquidating some stuff, I thought I could probably do both of us a
favor. I don't currently own a tube amp, and before 1990 I never
owned anything but, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the kind words about the HJ650. It's going to make some
budget archtop seeker a very happy customer. It did me.

Congrats, on the PR. The PR and DR are just treasures. The cool
thing about either of these is the you can get a crystal clean Fender
tone at 3-5 and get a hell of a rockin blues tone a 10.
