Anybody using a Fender Acoustasonic for jazz?

Fender has had a number of iterations of amps in this line -
Acoustasonic Pro (2x80W), JR (2x40W) and DSP verison, 30 & DSP version,
Acoustasonic SFX, SFX-II. I've owned 1/2 of them at one time or
another.

Unlike most of my other amps, I still own my AJR (US-made version,
non-DSP, analog chorus and reverb).

One time, Jimmy B used an AJR that Fender sent him; used it on a video,
I think. He said he liked it but that it was underpowered for his
needs.

Anyway, I really like the tone I get from that amp for jazz with any
one of my guitars. Like everybody else, I ownder what this or thta amp
would sound like and have been tempted into getting a Roland Cube 30 or
60 or a Fender Cyber Champ, but to cure myself, I just plug into the
AJR and the AAS dissipates.

Anybody using one for jazz gigs/jams?

I owned one briefly and agree it's under powered but didn't sound bad. I
have a SWR? California Blonde which is much nicer and of course more
expensive. But I rarely use it for jazz. I think the accoustic amps can be
great though if you have a nice accoustic archtop you are amplifying, that
is, an archtop with carved top and back that really bring out a nice
accoustic tone. Also good for straight steal string flattops or classical of
course. But for anything thing else I prefer a voiced amp.

I know most folks think of acoustic guitar amps as mini-PA's, totally
uncolored, but you can color tone to taste easily enough wiht osmething
like the Acoustsonic between the string dynamics (you can hear the
shades of tone it changes), the 3 band EQ, chorus, and reverb.

I actually like my Acoustsonic JR ebtter with electric archtops than
with my piezo-powered flattop.

I like the CA Blonde bbecause it lets you turn off the tweeter, whihc
is the one problem with most of the
Acoustasonic line - you can OD the tweeter and there's no way to turn
it off (maybe on the SFX-II, I don't know).

I have one too and like a lot.

HOWEVER, THERE'S MUCH THAT IS NEW in this department;
namely that the newer model has many more effects built in, so you can
dial 'em up in various combinations [flanger, too].

Traynor makes 100 W and 150W [more headroom] that are much lighter in
weight than the Fenders. Sound good too. Approx
the same price here in Toronto [L& M].

our fiddle player has one, and it's nice, i've used it at practice. although
i think i would opt for the crate block before the fender.

Have you tried the Crate Block.? I have seen it advertised and wondered what
a jazzer might have to say about it.

they got a few in at work. my boss was running his ibanez 335 (forget the
model number - as 200 or something) through the block and his 2 x12 thd cab,
and it sounded great, real clean, lots of headroom. for the money and the
size, it's a pretty nice package.
