Hi All

A few years ago I discovered this group and was able to get one of Frank Evans jazz standards “Tangerine”

Is there anyone who can share any other MP3’s and PDFs with me.

I really want to learn more jazz standards so any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance:)

This group is dead and inhabited by fascist trolls. Though once many
helpful souls populated the place, there are only one or two of us that
stop by--in my case because I still use usenet, or "google.groups", as
a place for counsel on computer stuff elsewhere.

I recommend joining some of the Facebook groups where there is plenty
of troll-free interaction among guitar players. I understand there are
3 or 4 of them now.

All largely true, but this group's population is apparently older, and clearly much more able and practiced musicians, than the population of the Facebook groups. Most posts on those groups seem to be from people in early stages of learning guitar. So I still count this group as a valuable resource.

Well everyone’s been nice to me so far.

I didn’t want to cause trouble. Just get some new stuff to learn and I like the format of what I have already

Of course you don't want to cause trouble, you're not a sociopath!
Unfortunately the sociopaths have come to roost.

As John points out, much of the chatter is comprised of newer
players/older players "getting back into" guitar or jazz, and seeking
advice on the same many topics. On the other hand, there are no
gratuitous rhetorical fist-fights spawned by fascists, Trumpists,
organists, Kenny G evangelists, etc. and little tolerance for the one
significant failing among rmmgj brethren--it's almost impossible to
turn a musical topic into a discussion of the many personal failings
and errant life-choices of the participants.

It's a good/bad thing: It's true our "freedom of speech" is limited, on
the other hand the general mood is not acrimonious. In general, it's
surprisingly benevolent! It's true there are blowhards and (on-topic)
evangelists which can weary the soul, but if irritating enough, they
can be blocked if they aren't administrators.

On Facebook:

Jazz Guitar
Jazz Guitar Chat
Modern Jazz Guitar
Jazz duos
Jazz Arranging
Contemporary Jazz Guitar
Jam of the Week

And I'm sure there are other groups. I imagine there are some non-jazz
groups of note, but I haven't reallly pursued. Actually, I've only
begun to pursue the jazz groups in the past couple of weeks during an
onerous spate with a cold.

There is also www.jazzguitar.be/forum/

Like all groups of humans it has its strengths and weaknesses. The
biggest strengths are general civility and a very diverse participant
base, as well as active moderation to manage incivility. The biggest
weakness is scarce participation by practical masters such as Jimmy
Bruno and Tony DiCaprio, who do post here from time to time- although
ISTR both of them posting there once or twice as well as a few others
such as Frank Vignola, but they are not regulars by any means. Tim Lerch
is also a contributor.

Jimmy B also has an online school, Frank has an excellent series of
instructional videos online and Tony does highly informative (and
entertaining) Skype lessons. There are other online options for
learning from great musicians- master classes with Peter Bernstein, for
example. Jimmy posts near-daily entertaining/curmudgeonly and sometimes
politically incorrect rants daily on YouTube, which are often
interspersed with solid musical information. (I don't know if it was
intentional on his part, but the videos have also documented his amazing
recovery from severe health issues that threatened his life and ability
to play, back to being an on-fire musician. That has been heartening
and inspirational, even when I find myself disagreeing with his
outbursts of curmudgeonness. Is that a word?).

And, heck, even this newsgroup is still helpful sometimes!

I found it valuable too, but since there's no traffice, as a resources,
it's all older material. It's like an archive.

By the way, the movie "Quincy" is fantastic, a movie about Quincy Jones.
